A Scottish tech company is to resume its sports operations in New york city, after a costs legalising the activity was signed into law.


FanDuel had to stop running in the state in November after regulators ruled fantasy sports companies' activities amounted to prohibited betting.

FanDuel later on cautioned it might not have the ability to continue as a going issue due to legal barriers in the US.

FanDuel, which was founded in Edinburgh in 2009, claims 6 million signed up users throughout the US and Canada. New York is one of its biggest markets.


Its innovation platform enables sports fans to select fantasy groups from real players, and follow their efficiencies.

'On death watch'

Chief executive Nigel Eccles invited the New York legislation, stating that sports fans in the state had sent out more than 110,000 letters and made almost 3,000 calls to legislators backing FanDuel's case.


He said: "Last fall, in the middle of nationwide controversy, some pundits put dream sports on death watch.

"But when the calendar turned to 2016 and fantasy sports fans had the opportunity to be heard and lawmakers had the chance to act, the dynamic rapidly shifted, and one by one states started to identify this is a game liked by millions - millions who must be able to play and should have the standard defenses managed to consumers in all significant markets."


Earlier this week, FanDuel launched its first item in the UK - a new one-day fantasy football platform focusing on the English Premier League.


The relocation followed it struck a collaboration handle sports data supplier Opta.
