Pre-owned (secondhand) cars just.

- Vehicle should be a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) or Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) listed on the HOV Eligibility list at the time of purchase *. See a list of eligible plug-in automobiles here.

- Vehicle can be acquired or leased.

- Vehicle needs to remain authorized to the candidate in California for a minimum of 20 months.

- Vehicle must be presently signed up to the candidate's PG&E domestic service address.

- If authorized, the refund check will be mailed to the address listed on the car's registration card.


* Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicles and Compressed Gas automobiles are not eligible.

Applicant Eligibility


- Application needs to be successfully submitted within 180 days of the date of EV purchase or lease.

- Applicant should be an active PG&E domestic electrical client. PG&E gas-only property clients who receive electric service from a municipality are disqualified for the rebate. The service account does not have to be in the candidate's name to use.

- Each PG&E consumer and each domestic home might get just one PG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate per eligible vehicle

- Each specific candidate may get a refund for a maximum of three various qualified automobiles for the life of the program.

- A family, specified as the same property service address, may not submit more than 3 rebate applications for cars bought or leased in a single calendar year.

Submit an application within 180 days after acquiring or renting a used EV to receive either the Standard Rebate or Rebate Plus


REBATE PLUS OPTION


Customers who fulfill the PG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate program requirements and are income-qualified may be eligible for the Rebate Plus option of $4,000.


If an applicant meets all other program requirements and certifies under Eligibility Scenario 1 or Scenario 2 below, they might be qualified for the Rebate Plus option. If an applicant gets a refund for the Standard option, the applicant might not apply again later for the distinction between the Standard option and the Rebate Plus alternative, no matter earnings certifications at the time of (or after) the original application.


If somebody else claims the candidate as a dependent (for the federal earnings tax year used to confirm applicant income eligibility) the candidate is not eligible for the Rebate Plus choice, regardless of the applicant's income or registration in a qualifying public support program. What files need to be submitted to look for the Rebate Plus choice?


Eligibility Scenario 1: Enrollment in a Qualified Public Assistance Program


An applicant might certify for the Rebate Plus alternative if they took part in, and can supply evidence of, registration for at least one of these public support programs on the date the vehicle was bought or rented:


- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance

- CalFresh/SNAP (food stamps).

- CalWorks (TANF)/ Tribal TANF.

- Drive Clean in the San Joaquin Replace Program *.

- Bay Area Clean Cars for All **.

- Running Start Income Eligible (tribal just).


- Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

- Medi-Cal (income-qualified Medi-Cal just).

- Medi-Cal for Families (Healthy Families A&B).

- Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

- Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).


To qualify, the candidate's name need to match that of the individual enrolled in the qualified public help program and the evidence of enrollment must be dated within 12 months of the application submission date. Applicants listed as a based on their evidence of public help documentation are not eligible for the Rebate Plus option. If a candidate is under the age of 18, additional paperwork will be asked for to validate reliance status.


* Applicants with applications and supporting documents sent on or after June 13, 2023 may receive Rebate Plus by offering their Drive Clean in the San Joaquin Replace Program approval letter that confirms their validated household income is 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) for the candidate's county.


** Applicants with applications and supporting documents submitted on or after May 22, 2025 may certify for Rebate Plus by supplying their Bay Area Clean Cars for All Program approval letter.


Eligibility Scenario 2: Income Verification


If the candidate's household fulfills the annual gross earnings limitations for their family size and the county in PG&E's service territory where the applicant lived when the vehicle was bought or rented, the applicant may get approved for the Rebate Plus option:


Household size consists of the taxpayer( s) and any people who are claimed as dependents on one federal income tax return. A tax household might consist of a spouse and/or dependents. Individuals who reside at the service address but who are not noted on the applicant's submitted income tax return will not be consisted of in the "family size" for refund functions.

Household earnings is figured out by income tax return records.
